What kind of teacher are you?

Patient. Friendly. Objective. Interactive. Adaptable. Open-minded. Sometimes funny.

However, I don't like being called a "teacher" because that makes people think of school, and real learning isn't school. I prefer to be called a "coach" or "tutor" - but this doesn't mean I don't have professional knowledge of teaching methods, psychology, and the English language.

I hold a certificate in TESOL studies from The College of Teachers in London.

When are you available and how much are the lessons?

The first few lessons are free. This is because I need to know your level and see how you respond to my conversational approach. After that I charge €30 per 45-minute lesson. I prefer 90-minute lessons.

If you or your family is struggling financially, please get in touch - I may be able to give a cheaper hourly rate, or refer you to one of my colleagues.

How do I know if hiring a private tutor is right for me?

If 2 or more of the things below are true for you, then it is very likely that you would benefit from hiring private teacher.

• You have made progress studying alone
• You are know (or feel like you know) the speed of your own learning
• You have clear goals and can explain them well
• You disagree with modern education systems or how they are run
• You have successfully taught yourself one or more skills - it doesn't matter how big or small 
• You have spent time thinking about philosophy
• You have above average emotional IQ 
• You believe in being as independent as possible

Can I rearrange lessons?

I prefer a fixed time each week, but you can rearrange a lesson for another time (subject to availability.) You can cancel a lesson up to 3 times per year due to illness, weddings, urgent business meetings, etc. If there are more than 3 cancellations, I reserve the right to charge you.

Which platforms do you use?

Usually, I use Teams or Zoom. Soon, lessons with me will be on Jitsi, Brave Talk and other open source platforms for total privacy.

Why is your logo like that?

I wanted my brand to reflect that I allow people to speak as much as possible during the lessons, that speech should be free, and that students can even bring their own topics.

What and how do you teach?

I prepare lessons and homework sheets based on the learner's profession, interests, hobbies and needs. This includes vocabulary lists, useful pages from textbooks, news articles and professional materials.

I use a mix of guided conversation/discussion, question-answer, pictures and video clips and other types of interaction. My lessons are relaxed.

Usually, I use Teams or Zoom, and open source alternatives. But I can use any compatible software or platform.

Can I answer the phone during the lessons with you?

Yes, you can. And send messages, or get a coffee! I am respectful of you and your business contacts.

How long is a language course?

Accepted Answer

Language courses with a private tutor can last from a few weeks (for example, just to prepare for a speech, or to discuss some of the latest developments in your area, etc.) to several years. This is something you need to consider carefully before making the financial commitment.

With me, a single 45-minute lesson is possible! Perhaps you just need one lesson to get an honest opinion of your English level.
